It's no surprise that Paris has a wine museum. The Museé du Vin is located in the up-scale 16th and is a short walk from the Eiffel Tower. It's modest, but it's a nice change from the sometimes overwhelming giant museums of Paris.
Of course the museum is all about French wine. My goal is to memorize where each wine producing region is on the map. I've decided that the best way to do this is to visit each one!
The museum is full of creepy wax people. The one on the left is making Champagne and the one on the right is Louis Pasteur doing some pasteurization.
Speaking of Champagne. It is everywhere in Paris right now for the holiday season.
The museum displayed various tools used in the wine making process. We had an audio guide that would reference the item numbers and DJB would always point to something as if he knew what it was. Of course he was rarely correct :)
My favourite exhibit displayed all the different glasses from each region.
This is how Parisians would grow vines in their households back in the day.
A tiny bottle of Cognac stored in a coffin. This was given to a groom on the night before his wedding. DJB is going to need a bigger bottle!
The best part of the museum was the wine afterwards. Three glasses each were included with our ticket!
I would recommend this museum if you enjoy wine. If you really wanted a wine themed day in Paris I would pair it with a wine tasting at Ô Chateau. Take a lot of pictures because you might not remember much :)
