What I Wore - The Fashion Brands

WCFW and Bavaria BMW teamed up this past weekend for a fashion fundraiser in support of autism, specifically the Maier Centre for Autism Services. "Dress to Impress" was the suggested dress code for the event and I had no problem with that as I finally had the perfect place to wear this gorgeous detailed peplum top.

Fashion Piece

I was recently invited to attend a chess themed photo shoot which showcased beautiful dresses by the talented local designer Melany Rowe (see additional dresses from her WCFW show HERE). The inspiration for the shoot came from Yves Ducoing who designed the shoot with Laurice Block, both of whom are incredible photographers.

Here is a sample of some of the creative photos taken that day.

Minty Fresh

I love how a certain colour can turn a boring ol' sweater and black pants work outfit into something a little more interesting to look at.

Mint green is definitely one of those colours, especially a really bright mint colour like the sweater above. The woven texture of this sweater is also a nice touch. Add any kind of pump to complete the look. My only rule for wearing printed shoes is that all of your other items of clothing are solid colours, unless you feel like being a bit more daring and mixing prints, which is more than acceptable (just try to stick with only 2 different prints for work).

You're probably less likely to wear sweaters right now as the summer months are approaching, but this one is quite light. Also, if your office is anything like mine and its colder inside than it is outside most days (damn you A/C!), it may come in handy.

CMB's Best & Worst: The 2013 Met Gala

Why am I going to New York at the end of the month instead of right now?! It was only the most talked about fashion event of the year at the Met in NYC on Monday night. This exclusive party is invite only by Ms. Wintour herself and brings out all the A (and some C) list stars. This years theme was punk so my best and worst are mainly based on how well this theme was played out.

I couldn't pick just 5 best dressed so what the heck, I picked 10, in no particular order...

Anne Hathaway in vintage Valentino
Sarah Jessica Parker in Giles Deacon
(This woman knows how to work the MET red carpet. She always brings her A game.)
Jessica Biel in Giambattista Valli
(Nice touch with the cobweb leggings.)
Stacey Keibler in Rachel Roy
Miley Cyrus in Marc Jacobs
(You may not agree with me on this one.)
Sienna Miller in Burberry
(Amazing what a studded jacket can do for an outfit!)
Nina Dobrev in Monique L'huillier
(Way to go against the grain and wear a pantsuit.)
Katy Perry in Dolce & Gabbana
Rooney Mara in Givenchy
(Can this be my wedding dress please?!)
Minka Kelly in Carolina Herrera
(This girl is so gorgeous, anything looks good on her.)
Now for the worst dressed, I stuck with 5. Not only did these not really fit the theme but i'm not sure I would even like them at a non-themed event. You be the judge.

Cameron Diaz in Stella McCartney
(Just because you add spikes to a dress doesn't make it punk. Sorry Camy.)
Ashley Greene in Marchesa
Gwyneth Paltrow in Valentino
Kate Upton in Diane von Furstenberg
(One of these thing is not like the others...)
Emma Watson in Prabal Gurung

What I Wore: The Yeggies!

I was extremely honored that CMB was nominated for the first ever annual Yeggie awards! The event went down this past Saturday May the 4th and it definitely did not disappoint. The awards ceremony was hosted by Trent Wilkie, who kept the show interesting with his witty, and sometimes inappropriate humour. Presenters had clever introductions and all award recipients were gracious and humble. Vicky from Adventures in Fashion took home the best in Style and Fashion category, which was well deserved! This girl puts a lot of work into her blog and if I was going to lose to somebody, I am glad it was her.

Dress code was business casual but since I dress this way everyday at work, I decided to go completely against it and wear a funky pleated pleather skirt and neon blouse.

Blouse -Twik (Simons); Skirt - Urban Outfitters; Shoes - Zara; Clutch - Nine West; Necklace - Garbo (The Bay)
Some other snaps from throughout the night. Naturally I brought everyone I know! Everyone was looking sharp though!
