What I Wore: WCFW Day 2

Another quick outfit post from last night at Western Canada Fashion Week! I was happy to finally dig these pleather beauties out of my closet as I don't get to wear them very often.  Again, reviews of the shows I watched will be posted next week so make sure to check back!

What I Wore: WCFW Day 1

It was day one for me at WCFW last night. My outfit details are posted below. Check back next week for a full review of the show!

(Photo's by Yvonne Ho)
Sweater - Marc by Marc Jacobs; Jacket - Vera Moda (The Bay); Jeans - Joe Fresh; Pumps - Nine West; Purse - Matt&Nat; Watch - Michael Kors; Necklace - Stella & Dot
Its always a bonus to be able to wear clothes both to the office and out on the town.  A perfect example is this striped sweater. Its very work-appropriate when paired with a black pencil skirt or pants yet also trendy enough to wear to an event like a fashion show!

Simple Sweater Dress

Sweater dresses come in many different colours, patterns, textures and lengths. One thing that they do have in common is how simple they are to style for the office.

(Photos by Yvonne Ho)
Dress - DKNY; Blazer - Bryans (old); Tights - The Bay; Pumps - Nine West; Wristlet - Coach; Skinny belt - Unknown;  Key necklace - Gift; Watch - Bulova; Bracelets - Pandora and gift; Ring - Unknown

All you have to do is this...

-Add tights (I prefer super opaque ones).
-Add a skinny belt.
-Add a blazer.
-Done

Easy right? Its a good idea to save your sweater dresses for those blah mornings when you don't feel like putting much effort into your outfit. You'll be comfortable and warm all day AND you'll still look professional!

WCFW Starts Today!

If attending a New York, Paris or Milan fashion show is on your bucket list (I know its on mine!), then you will thoroughly enjoy Western Canada Fashion Week here in Edmonton. Shows are on a nightly basis from March 21 - 28 at the TransAlta Arts Barns. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the door or by phone at Tix on the Square. There are also various other fashion related events around the city. You can find more information HERE.

I attended a couple of the shows last year and was really impressed at how great they were put together. Wcfw is a wonderful event that showcases local designers, stores, salons, makeup artists and models, just to name a few.  There was a also a musical element to each show, which was a nice touch.

Unfortunately I will be away this weekend and unable to attend any of those shows, however am planning on going to the Monday March 25th and Tuesday March 26th shows. I am extremely excited to be sitting front row this year, in the blogger section! I encourage you all to experience at least one show this week. If you like all things fashion, this will definitely be your cup of tea!

Repeat Offender

I never thought I would own one pair of red pants, let alone two (well, three if you count my red jeggings)!

(Photos by Yvonne Ho)
Pants - BCBG; Pumps - Nine West; Sweater - Joe Fresh; Lace Cami - Dex (The Bay); Watch - Michael Kors; Serpent  Bracelet - Stella & Dot; Earrings - Rox On by Karina Miller

My obsession started after seeing these beauties on Giuliana Rancic. I instantly loved the not so typical red colour for work pants and how great the red looked paired with black and white. Not only am I guilty of buying another pair of red pants, but these are also the same pair that I wrote about here, except a different colour. What they say is true, don't mess with a good thing.  It's very rare that I find a comfortable, nice fitting pair of pants on SALE, so when I found this pair in two different colours I couldn't pass them up! I kept the rest of the outfit black and white but added some interest by mixing a cool pattern with lace.

Beige Doesn't Have to Be Boring

Let me tell you, there are a gazillion ways to spice up a beige article of clothing!

(Photos by Yvonne Ho)

Blouse - Calvin Klein; Skirt - Robert Rodriguez (Winners); Pumps - Nine West; Necklace and Earrings - the Bay; Ring - Aldo; Watch - Michael Kors

Beige is not a very exciting colour and can sometimes blend in with your skin colour and cause you to look a bit washed out.  However, if styled correctly, this colour can look ravishing. The easiest way to accomplish this is add a vibrant colour. See red blouse.  If that's not enough pizazz for you, add a dash of animal print and a bold statement necklace!

Although boring, its a good idea to have a few beige items in your work wardrobe. Add a beige blouse to tone down a bold coloured skirt or vise versa.

As a side note, I purchased this skirt at Winners in their 'Runway' section which was very impressive, I must say! Unfortunately, this was in Vancouver and not the city I live in. I was pleasantly surprised to find the racks packed with higher end brands such as Valentino, Rachel Zoe and Equipment, for more than half the price! Does anyone know if any of the Edmonton stores have this section??

The Yeggies Are Happening on May 4th!

They have a legit venue (Shaw Conference Center), host (Trent Wilkie) and will be rolling out the red carpet.  I also hear there will be fireworks and ghosts! You can see for yourself below.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm invite to all of my CMB readers, if you happen to be in the Edmonton area on that date. Tickets are a tad steep, at $40 if purchased in March and $50 after that, but its a great way to support a local event...and CMB of course! You can purchase your tickets HERE if you're interested.

Also, here is a little more information about the event, if the fireworks and ghosts haven't won you over yet (per the ticket website)...

Celebrating the best in Edmonton New Media, the Yeggies are Edmonton's first ever social media awards show. Hosted by writer, actor and comedian Trent Wilkie, the evening will involve hors d'oeuvres, drinks and a lively program that not only rewards the city's best new media content creators across eleven different categories, but also pokes fun at them and the whole Edmonton social media community.

What I Wore: My 30th Birthday Partay!!

Pink and polka dots was the theme for my birthday suit because what better way to hang on to your youth than through bright colours and fun patterns!

(Photo's by Yvonne Ho)

Jeggings - SUKO Jeans (Winners); Blouse and Clutch - SmartSet; Blazer - BCBG; Pumps - Le Chateau; Belt - Jacob; Earrings - The Bay; Cuff - Unknown; Necklace and Ring - Aldo; Watch - Michael Kors

The plan was to go for some casual drinks with friends at a local pub but little did I know that my boyfriend and family were planning a surprise party for me instead! It turned out to be a fabulous fashion themed night complete with a picture montage of me throughout my 30 years of life as well as a red stiletto cake!

I wore five, count em FIVE different hues of pink. Shoes, blouse, clutch, cuff and lips. It may have been a bit of a pink overload but you only turn 30 once! I also couldn't resist pairing the pink with these polka dot jeggings that I found at Winners for a steal.  I topped the outfit with a big girl blazer to counter-act all of the bubble gum barbie pieces!

The Opposite of Plane Clothes

Normally, travel attire would consist of the following: Lulus, hoodie, Uggs. However, when you're travelling for business its probably a good idea to skip the lounge clothes and opt for a more professional, yet comfortable look.

(Photos by Yvonne Ho)
Skinnies - Parasuco (Winners); Blazer and Scarf - Zara; Boots - Locale; Bag - Segolene; Tee - Lord & Taylor (The Bay); Watch - Michael Kors; Ring - Aldo

The keys to achieving a professional AND comfortable look are as follows.

-Comfortable bottoms.  (Thick) leggings work best but black stretchy jeans can also do the trick.

-Professional on top. The easiest way to do this is with a classic black blazer. Choose one that does not wrinkle easily. This Zara Basic blazer works perfectly!

-Boots. Knee high boots, either with or without a heel go great over a pair of skinnies. They look posh and will keep your toes toasty warm. Choose boots with zippers for easy removal.

-Scarf. This is where you can let your fashionista-selves out. A scarf always looks stylish and conveniently covers up a comfy white t-shirt. ;)
